Basic Degree Information/Description
The University of Texas at San Antonio offers a generalist Master’s degree with courses focused on new media, health, organizational, international, intercultural, interpersonal and small group communication. The Master of Arts Degree in Communication offers students the opportunity for advanced study in Communication. This program is grounded in the concept of integrated communication; it encourages students' development of broad perspectives in applying research, discovery, critical thinking, and creative enterprise of individuals and groups in a variety of settings. The faculty intends to develop students' knowledge and skills in communication that are requisite for success in leadership, scholarship, and/or creative endeavors in business, public sector, and non-profit environments.
- Upon the recommendation and approval of the graduate advisor, students will pursue one of three degree options: a Thesis option, a Project option, or a Comprehensive Examination Only option.
- The minimum number of semester credit hours required for this degree is 36, exclusive of coursework or other study required to remove admission deficiencies.

Admission Requirements and Deadlines
- Required Degree: Bachelor’s degree with 18 credit hours in field of study or in another appropriate field of study.
- Other Degree Requirements: None.
- General University Requirements:A degree seeking applicant must meet university wide requirements.
- Application: A complete Graduate School application.
- Transcripts: Official transcripts from all institutions attended. All international transcripts must be recorded in English or officially translated to English.
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae: None.
- Letters of Recommendation: Provide two letters of recommendation from academic sources with the option of an additional letter from either an academic or a professional source (no more than three letters should be submitted). Letters from academic sources are expected, but if the applicant has been out of school for a significant period of time, letters from professional sources who can attest to the applicant’s academic potential may be considered.
- Statement of Purpose: A statement of purpose, 500-750 words in length, describing the applicant’s academic and other qualifications to be admitted to this program, areas of interest in the program, and goals related to pursuing the Master’s degree in Communication.
- Test Scores: None.
- Other: None.
- Evaluation of Foreign Credentials: All applicants including non-U.S. citizens (International), U.S. citizens (Domestic), or permanent residents who have earned university-level credit from foreign institutions are required to submit an evaluation from an approved Foreign Credential Agency of transcripts from all foreign institutions attended. If official transcripts are used in the foreign credential evaluation, the official transcript requirement will be considered met. However, if unofficial documents are used in the foreign credential evaluation, final official transcripts must be sent to UTSA.
- An approved evaluation requires a detailed course-by-course evaluation. Summaries will not be accepted.
- The Foreign Credentials Service of America (FCSA) is a private corporation that provides evaluations of foreign school credentials. The application is available at: Application for Credentials Evaluation.
- IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5.
- TOEFL: Minimum scores of 79 or 60 for Internet or paper versions, respectively.
