Cybersecurity Science (M.S.)
Basic Degree Information/Description
The M.S. in Cybersecurity Science degree provides broad exposure to the cybersecurity discipline along with a deep understanding of its technical and scientific underpinnings. With a strong emphasis on technical aspects and on practical skills in cybersecurity, cyber operations, and computer science, this program offers a rigorous curriculum designed to empower you with knowledge and skills that employers are looking for in cybersecurity professionals. Thesis and non-thesis options are available.
Why pursue an M.S. in Computer Science?
Our programs offer excellent opportunities for intensive study and research in a variety of areas, including Algorithms, Bioinformatics, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Computer Architecture, Computer Networks, Data Science, High Performance Computing, Operating Systems, Human-Computer Interaction and Virtual Reality, Machine Learning and Computer Vision, Parallel and Distributed Systems, and Software Engineering, among others. In addition, there are two 30-credit-hour MS degree programs, the Master of Science in Computer Science and the Master of Science in Cybersecurity program. Our graduates have been very successful in finding jobs in IT industry and in academia.
Admission Prerequisites:
Required Degree | Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in computer science. |
Other Degree Requirements | Students who do not qualify for unconditional admission may be admitted on a conditional basis. Students who are admitted on a conditional basis may be required to complete specific undergraduate courses as conditions of admission. If such courses are listed as deficiencies, they will not count toward the graduate degree. In such cases, students should anticipate that additional time will be required to complete the degree. |

Evaluation of Foreign Credentials |
All applicants including non-U.S. citizens (International), U.S. Citizens, and permanent residents who have earned university-level credit from foreign institutions are required to submit official transcripts along with an evaluation of the transcripts from Foreign Credentials Service of America.

Career Options Available for a Computer Science Graduate:
- Our M.S. graduates are working in various industrial positions at companies such as AT&T, USAA, Microsoft, Oracle, and Intel.
- Some of our M.S. graduates have been admitted to Ph.D. Degree programs at UTSA and other universities including UT Austin and Texas A&M.
