The First Steps program is a unique model developed by the UT San Antonio Graduate School to introduce and demystify the dissertation and thesis manuscript process for master’s or doctoral students at any point in their academic journey, regardless of discipline. First Steps is designed to prepare graduate students to enter the dissertation or thesis manuscript process through an in-person, engaged and in-depth approach; including subject-matter experts from across Roadrunner Nation. Topics include:

  • Embracing the Writing Process
  • Setting Goals and Overcoming Obstacles with Manuscript Writing
  • Creating a Writing Accountability Group (WAG)
  • Citation Management and How Proper Citation Can Avoid Plagiarism Traps
  • Effective Communication with Your Faculty Chair or Advisor
  • Overcoming Stress and Maintaining Balance Through the Dissertation Manuscript Process
